Rodent Revolt

Created for a game jam in 2019 with the theme of 'revolution' this game tasks the player with freeing all of their fellow lab rats and causing as much damage to the lab equipment as possible within the time limit.

Concept

The idea for the game was simple, we wanted a revolution from a group of lab rats. Taking that idea and expanding on it created a short game where the player runs around the lab in a frenzy. There was a limited time for the player to free the other rats and every time they broke a piece of equipment an extra few seconds were added.

Design

When laying out the lab I wanted it to have multiple levels (in terms of verticality). The countertops and on top of the cupboards would be were all the rats and equipment would be found and if the player fell to the floor they would have to get to a vent to get back up. I also created different features for traversal from using measuring tubes as bridges or fans as a method of propulsion.

Assets

Due to the limited time we had the assets needed to be simple but effective, conveying what they might do as efficiently as possible. One way of ensuring clarity was through the use of particles, I created with Unity's Particle System, making items' uses clearer. I also had to create broken versions of all of the assets and use them to create prefabs contains both whole and shattered meshes.
