Firefly Soup
This was a small level design project with a focus on player tasks. Playing as a bipedal firefly the player moves around a small area looking for food.
Bug Game
A solo project that I created in which you play as a firefly with broken wings and so you must run around to find pieces of food.

This was a design project as a part of my degree.

I created the majority of the assets myself with animations and produced the game in Unreal Engine 4.
Level Design
The aim of the level's design was to make the player feel small, replicating the scale of a firefly. This gave plenty of opportunities to use unconventional obstacles and elements, such as a medicine pill tub for the player home or a patrolling line of ants as a wall.
Mechanics
The mechanics of the project were very simple and mainly consisted of basic character traversal and item collection. In order to help the player find the collectables they had the ability to boost the glow from their abdomen. This would briefly show all collectables within a certain radius from the player.
Asset Creation
The assets used in the project were a mix of sourced and made assets. The assets that I made were modelled, rigged and animated in Blender and textured in Substance Painter. As I wanted the player character to be anthropomorphised, I had to create the character from scratch taking inspiration from Pixar's A Bug's Life.
